This qualification will enhance the scope and quality of victim empowerment services in South Africa by providing service providers of victim empowerment with (primarily in the NGO, CBO, private sector and government)  necessary knowledge and skills to provide direct services in co-ordinating victim empowerment programmes in their communities. A victim empowerment coordination officer is the primary contact personnel for clients who need trauma counselling. They organise and coordinate the functioning of support groups for survivors of abuse and trauma liaising with a Social Worker or professional counsellor.  They ensure that individuals, groups and communities are supported to deal with the consequences of trauma, and break the cycle of violence.
